چکیده

We discuss on the early stage of galaxy formation based on recent deep surveys for very high-redshift galaxies, mostly beyond redshift of 6. These galaxies are observed to be strong Lymanα emitters, indicating bursts of massive star formation in them. The fraction of such star-forming system appears to increase with increasing redshift. On the other hand, the star formation rate density derived from Lymanα emitters tends to decrease with increasing redshift. It is thus suggested that the major epoch of initial starbursts may occur around z ∼ 6 – 7. In order to understand the early stage of galaxy formation, new surveys for galaxies beyond redshift of 7 will be important in near future.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Collision-induced galaxy formation: semi-analytical model and multi-wavelength predictions

A semi-analytic model is proposed that couples the Press-Schechter formalism for the number of galaxies with a prescription for galaxy-galaxy interactions that enables to follow the evolution of galaxy morphologies along the Hubble sequence. Within this framework, we calculate the chemo-spectrophotometric evolution of galaxies to obtain spectral energy distributions. We find that such an approa...

Globular cluster abundances and what they can tell us about galaxy formation

We review the properties of globular clusters which make them useful for studying the Galactic halo, Galactic chemical evolution, and the early stages of the formation of the Milky Way. We review the evidence that GCs have a chemical inventory similar to those of halo field stars. We discuss the abundance ratios for dSph galaxies and show that it is possible to have formed at least part the Gal...

Discovery of Young Stellar Objects at the Edge of the Optical Disk of Our Galaxy

We report a discovery of young stellar objects associated with a molecular cloud at the edge of the optical disk of our Galaxy. This cloud is denoted as Cloud 2 in the list by Digel et al. and it is one of the most distant molecular clouds from the Galactic center known to date, with a probable distance of 15–19 kpc. We found seven red near-infrared sources associated with this cloud. Based on ...
